He heard a branch cracking, then her landing with a hard thud. Roseshade snapped up from his position at the tree just in time to see her land. "Waspthroat, are you okay?" He ran over to her to make sure she was not severely injured. The older helene sat up, groaning slightly.
"I'm pretty sure I'm okay... I can move still... I don't understand- I'm not heavy, and that branch wasn't rotten. What happened?" She looked at him.
He looked up at where the branch used to sit. "Maybe it was just thin somewhere. We can try again tomorrow night..." He looked at her again. "Come on. Let's go back to camp."
The two had returned to camp and their dens. Roseshade went to lay down in his den. What happened? He tried to rationalize what happened in his mind, but one thing stood out above everything else- She wasn't meant to be Titan. No, it couldn't be that. if it wasn't her, then who was it? It bothered him. He sighed in annoyance then stood up. He needed to travel to the Galaxy Crystal for answers.
He navigated his way through the cool and dark pathway until he reached a large room. Crystals jutted out from the walls, and in the center was a giant crystal that glittered with the brilliance of a thousand stars. He approached the crystal, then laid down, touching his nose to the cool stone. "Forest of Stars, give me a sign..." He mumbled and closed his eyes.
He expected to see his ancestors, but instead, he woke up to see the Star Tree again. He looked around and spotted Waspthroat. "Waspthroat! There you are!" He flicked his tail and walked over to her. "Why aren't you climbing? You need your lives!" He told her.
She only stared at the tree. "This is not my tree to climb." Roseshade was slightly startled at how monotone she sounded. Her eyes didn't look right either. "This is yours."
"Mine? But I'm an Iapetus. I don't have an Atlas or anyone to take my spot..."
"Haven't you figured it out? It's Weaselstride..." She looked at him. "Voyagerstar was right. You are not very clever, are you?"
"No! I am smart! I knew Weaselstride might have been the next Iapetus, I just... I didn't know where I would go." Roseshade growled.
"Well, dear Roseshade... There is no way for you but up... Remember this." She replied before Roseshade woke up with the sun glittering on the stone.
Roseshade had said nothing to Waspthroat about the dream. They had returned to the tree that night. Waspthroat looked up at the tree, then at Roseshade. She chuckled slightly. "You know, it would be interesting if you climbed the tree..." Roseshade felt slightly uneasy when she said that, but chuckled. "Yeah, but this is your Titan ceremony- not mine."
She thought for a minute before looking at him, smile fading. "Our ancestors spoke to me last night... They said it wasn't my tree to climb..." She mumbled.
He looked at her, acting surprised. "Well, who would it be then if it isn't you?"
"It may be you... I had a dream a few days ago... I was watching a cat on top of the Star Tree, and it wasn't me. There were roses all around. I think you were meant to lead the clan all along." She stared at the tom. Roseshade didn't know how to react. Why him? "That's why I think you should try to climb the tree before I try again." She smiled. A small summer breeze ruffled their pelts as Roseshade looked up towards the top of the tree.
"I'll try... But if a branch breaks from under me or I fall off it'll be your turn." Roseshade teased as he began climbing the tree.
"Good luck!"
He smiled slightly and continued to climb the tree. Up and up he continued to climb. He suddenly felt one of his paws slip from under him, but he quickly regained balance. He looked down. Big mistake. He stared at the ground which was far below him at this point. Roseshade felt very uneasy as he remembered how he fell as an atlas and it detoured his whole life from the path of a Helene. It made him become an Iapetus, though. It was a job he never thought he would enjoy, but did. He discovered himself as an Iapetus, and as much as he hated to admit it, if he hadn't become an Iapetus, Crowstar wouldn't have become leader and he wouldn't have served his clan in the best way by driving him out. He was made for this. A tree defined his life once, and it was about to define it again. Roseshade got a sudden surge of adrenaline and kept climbing up the tree. He was suddenly out of the branches and at the top of the tree. He could see everything- He saw the camp, Voyager's Peak and Hunter's Hollow. He looked toward the sky where the stars were brighter than usual. He suddenly felt a wave of drowsiness consume him and he laid down on a group of branches that were woven together and very strong. Before he knew what was happening, he fell asleep.
Unlike falling asleep at the Galaxy Crystal, his body felt warm and cozy at the top of the tree. Voices began to softly whisper around him. "Roseshade..." is all that was coherent to him. He snapped awake. He was now in the Forest of Stars, but not for the same reason as before. Nine cats appeared around him, and he sat up.
"Welcome, Roseshade." A familiar voice purred. He turned to see Dewstar. He felt a sudden wave of sadness come over him as he looked at her. Her eyes didn't reflect a cold personality like she saw her other clanmates with. There was some pride in her eyes and a soft gaze that she used only for him and his siblings. "I'm proud of you..." she smiled. It was bittersweet for him...
"Thanks..." He mumbled, smiling slightly.
She stepped back. "Roseshade. You have been chosen by us and the Forest of Stars to be granted the privilege of being Titan. Know that you are about to serve, protect, and care for your clan through the best and worst of times. You will honor the code and put your clan first. Do you promise to uphold the code, and execute the duties of a Titan at any cost, even with your life?"
"I do..."
"I'm pretty sure I'm okay... I can move still... I don't understand- I'm not heavy, and that branch wasn't rotten. What happened?" She looked at him.

Do you promise to uphold the code, and execute the duties of a Titan at any cost, even with your life?"
"I do..."
The cats began to approach him. The first cat, a slim and short-haired black tom with piercing yellow eyes approached him. It was Voyagerstar himself. "I give you this first life of leadership. This life will help you continue to lead Voyagerclan through many moons." He touched noses with him.
Roseshade was now standing in front of a large group of cats, none of which looked familiar. The territory was also unfamiliar to him as well. He was speaking, but not with his own voice- It was Voyagerstar's. "We are no longer divided as some poor unfortunate wild cats with no sense of direction... We are one. We are the same blood. We are a clan!" Yowls and cheers rose through the crowd. "Let's show this group we will not break and get them out of our home!"
The scene faded and the next cat stepped forward. He recognized this cat as Condorblaze, a cat he didn't know very well but still respected. "This second life is for strength in the hardest of times. Use this well to serve your clan."
He was now in another unfamiliar location. He felt uncontrollable grief over him. A tail length away, a queen and four of her kits laid still- some sort of fight had occurred here. Next to him, he felt some squirming and heard a strong mew. He looked down to see a white kit squirming. He nuzzled the kit's head gently, curling around him to cover him. "Hail... That will be your name... And I'll stay strong for you. You need your father..." He managed to say with a hoarse whisper.
The next cat walked forward; it was Ghostpool. "Ghostpool..." Roseshade stared at the young tom in disbelief, but he smiled sadly. "This was my fate... Sad, yes, but I'm fortunate to give you life three." He touched noses with Roseshade. "This life is for love. Use this life to love your clan and family as I have..."
He was now in the current Atlas den, which he felt comfort in knowing this was somewhere he recognized. Next to him, Cypresspaw suddenly cried out and woke up. He was frightened badly. "Cypresspaw, are you okay?" He asked him as Ghostpool, then paw. The other tom shook his head and didn't move. He stood up and walked over to the nest besides him, then laid down. He licked his head repeatedly in comfort until he began to calm down. "I wouldn't let anything or anyone hurt you. You're safe here..." Cypresspaw nodded and inched closer to him, curling up besides him and resting his head against his shoulder and closing his eyes when he had finally calmed down. "Thank you..."
The next cat had appeared. This was Trenchfeather, a cat who passed shortly after he became an apprentice. She touched noses with him. "With this fourth life I give you the gift of enjoying the present... Use this gift to enjoy what I took for granted."
He had flopped down in the nest. He was exhausted and sad. "I thought being a Helene would be so much more fun... I threw away my memories as an Atlas for this?" He mumbled to himself. "I hate this... I wish I was an Atlas again... I wish I had more friends and memories..."
The next cat approached him. He felt uneasy as he stared at the large she-cat; She was even bigger than Cinderflurry and was absolutely intimidating. She stared at him for a few moments before crouching down to meet eye-to-eye with him. "I am Maplefang. You are Roseshade, yes?" Her voice was also husky sounding. "Y-yes it is-" He cowered slightly. She flicked an ear. "I am not here to hurt you. Am here to give a life." She said as she touched noses with him. "I will give the fifth life of mercy. Do not kill a defenseless enemy..."
He was fighting a cat who was on the losing end of the fight and bleeding quite heavily. He stopped. "Stay here..." He said as Maplefang. He returned back with herbs and started helping the rogue. "What are you doing? Aren't you going to kill me?" The rogue narrowed his eyes. "You will bleed out. I do not kill mouse with three legs." She muttered.
The sixth cat appeared. He was smaller than the previous cats. "I am Cricketpaw. I wanted to give you a life!" The atlas was so bubbly and happy... What a shame, Roseshade thought as he touched noses with him. "I wanted to give you life six to make you really brave!"
Roseshade was now looking through the eyes of Cricketpaw. Cats were yowling at him as he approached a cliff with a wolf following close on his tail. At the edge, he turned to face the wolf. He was terrified, but unsheathed his claws. He knew what he had to do... He jumped onto the wolf's face and clawed at his ears. The canine stumbled and shook his head, trying to shake the atlas off but it was no use. The wolf had lost his footing, and the two plummeted to the ground...
Roseshade jolted back to reality. Cat number seven stood in front of him. "I'm Mudtail... I have a life for you." He was about the same height as him if not a tiny bit taller. He touched noses with him. "This seventh life will give you the gift of curiosity. Wander far and learn more as I have."
He was now running back to the group from Voyagerstar's life, but instead he was now Mudtail. "I think I found a camp! It's a huge cave, and everyone will fit there! That's why I've been exploring so much- there's even a hunting ground!" The cats murmured and followed him to the camp that would become the first cave camp and home for Voyagerclan.
Cat number eight was Lionwhisker. She looked kind and smiled warmly at Roseshade and touched noses with him. "I give you this life of patience for the times your clan tests yours..."
He was now Lionwhisker. The clan was all chattering at once, the sounds of chaos echoing on the old camp's walls. he was waiting patiently beside Dewstar who was frantically trying to calm everyone down. He just turned to the group and raised his tail. "If everyone may calm down, I would like to speak about the crow omen..." the cats eventually calmed and quieted down enough, and lionwhisker began to speak. He didn't know what Lionwhisker was going to say, though, as he came back to the Forest of Stars.
Dewstar stood above him. "Roseshade... You have made me more proud than words could ever say..." They made eye contact and he felt a slight lump in his throat. He touched noses with her. "Roseshade, with this last life, I give you the life of integrity. Make the right choices as you have done before, and be the leader Voyagerclan deserves."
He was now Dewstar. He had stared at the dead body of a cat he had never seen before...
"Lionstar... He's gone now. Dewstar, learn from his mistakes." A younger Waspthroat had said. He turned to face the she-cat. She was standing next to Hailsoar. "I won't be like him. I promise..."
He was now back in the forest of stars and now he had all nine of his lives. "Roseshade. You have received the nine lives of a worthy leader. From here on out, you shall no longer be known as Roseshade... You are now Rosestar, leader of Voyagerclan. Serve your clan well."
The cats one by one dipped their heads out of respect. Now Rosestar watched them for several moments before they sat upright again. The Forest of Stars began to fade from his dreams. He woke up at the top of the tree feeling slightly stiff. He stared at the sky, sighing before beginning his way down. It all really did feel like some sort of weird dream...
Waspthroat was waiting at the bottom of the tree, yawning. Her tail flickered as he jumped down. "So, Roseshade... How did it go?" Rosestar looked at her. "Well, uh... My name is Rosestar now..."
The older she-cat's eyes lit up. "That's wonderful! You'll need to choose and decide on a Rhea, though." She began walking to the camp, and he followed. "Well, who do you suggest? I know you don't want to be Titan..."
"What about Dustbreeze?"
"Maybe- I've never had a problem with Dustbreeze. She's more of a follower than a leader, though..."
"Good point." Waspthroat thought. "What about Cinderflurry?" Rosestar thought. "Cinderflurry is great but she's sort of impulsive- She likes to fight anything bigger than her." Waspthroat lashed her tail so it whacked him on the shoulder. "You can't be picky with this. They all have flaws."
Rosestar growled then sighed. "I know... I just want what's best for the clan..." All the way to the clan, they kept discussing the pros and cons of each of the cats who were eligible for leadership. They entered the camp where many clan members awaited their return. They all began to chatter and swarm Waspthroat, chanting "Waspstar!" and congratulating her. "Thanks, but I didn't get my nine lives..." She said. The chattering turned into confused muttering. "Roseshade- er, Rosestar can explain what happened."

The cats turned to the new young leader. He felt kinda vulnerable at that moment and slightly uneasy as he made his way towards the rock where Crowstar would make his announcements. He struggled his way up the rock slightly, then looked at the cats below. "All cats old enough to swim to Voyager's Peak gather around for an important announcement!"
Cats began to gather around the rock and with slight confusion upon seeing Rosestar at the top. All of the cats gathered, and in the far back he spotted his brother near the entrance with Kataloxpaw sitting by him. Rosestar cleared his throat.
"As you know, several nights ago, Waspthroat and I went to the Star Tree so she could receive her nine lives. And, as you know... That fell through, not because of her doing. The Forest of Stars broke the branch she was on as a sign she was not meant to be the next Titan. The Forest of Stars sent a dream that I would be the next Titan, so here we are." The cats below him began to chatter again, this time understanding and aware. "As your titan, I promise to serve and protect this clan as well as I possibly can. One of the duties as titan is to pick a new and worthy Rhea. Waspthroat and I have been discussing this, and Waspthroat had discussed this with the other Pandoras even before trying for her nine lives the first time. Cinderfurry, please come forward."
The large she-cat walked towards the rock and looked up at Rosestar.
"Cinderflurry is my first choice of rhea. Know that by accepting this offer, you are pledging your allegiance toyour clan and future duties through Titanship."
She hesitated for a few moments, thinking. "I do."
"Then by the power invested to me by the Forest of Stars, I grant you the new rank of Rhea! Serve the clan well, Cinderflurry..."
She leaped up the rock to touch noses with him. He turned to face the crowd one more time as Cinderflurry sat beside him. Weaselstride began making his way through the crowd. "Rosestar! Before this meeting ends..." He cut off as he began climbing up the rock. Rosestar saw that in his eyes he was terrified to be in the cave let alone talking in front of others. "I had a dream last night... I was in the Iapetus den, but not as a patient. I think they and I want me to be the next Iapetus."
Rosestar smiled. "I had a sign about that... A weasel with a flower in its mouth ran by us the first night. The Forest of Stars has approved you to be the newest Iapetus!"
The cats hesitated before cheers broke out. "With that, this meeting is disbanded. We will celebrate tomorrow night!"
"Rosestar! Cinderflurry! Weaselstride!" The cats chanted the three names, and the three cats descended from the rock. This was a new beginning for Voyagerclan, Rosestar thought. It was a new era.
